En los últimos años se ha observado una importante participación en los esfuerzos internacionales para desarrollar medidas de Comercio en Valor Agregado (TiVA), impulsadas por la creciente demanda de datos mejores, más completos y más oportunos sobre las cadenas de valor mundiales, sus impulsores y sus impactos. Los ejemplos de iniciativas incluyen TiVA de la OCDE-OMC, FIGARO de Eurostat, TiVA de Norteamérica, APEC TIVA, WIOD, matrices insumo-producto regionales de IO para América Latina coordinadas por CEPAL y muchas otras.
