Container Trade in the Region’s Ports Rises 1.3% in 2014

(June 11, 2015) The movement of cargo in containers in Latin American and Caribbean ports grew 1.3% during 2014, according to figures released today by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The United Nations organization unveiled a new edition of its ranking of container port throughput, published in its Maritime Profile, which confirms great heterogeneity: with increases on the west coast of South America (5.3%), Mexico (4.0%) and Central America (3.4%), and declines on the east coast of South America (-2.2%) and the Caribbean (-8.2%).
