Recent progress in the implementation of population and housing censuses
10:35 to 13:10Much of the region is in the midst of conducting population and housing censuses. Ten countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are expected to complete this statistical operation in 2022. The usual challenges of implementing censuses, such as the burdensome organizational demands on national statistical offices and the deployment of substantial human and financial resources, have been compounded amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which in many cases has forced the postponement or redesign of census processes. Under this agenda item, countries that have recently carried out their censuses, along with those countries soon to undertake this important statistical operation, will present their experiences, so that good practices can be identified with a view to ensuring the successful implementation of the next round of censuses.
