Metodología del Curso
El curso se realiza en una modalidad de educación a distancia (e‐learning), a través de internet y con el apoyo de tutores. Está estructurado en módulos que corresponden a diversas unidades temáticas y los participantes deberán desarrollar una serie de lecciones, ejercicios aplicados y una evaluación al finalizar cada módulo. The CEPAL REVIEW was founded in 1976, along with the corresponding Spanish version, Revista de la cepal , and is published three times a year by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, which has its headquarters in Santiago, Chile. The aims of the Social Development Division include contributing to the assessment and analysis of the social situation of the population of Latin America and the Caribbean, and its work focuses on specific groups in the various countries of the region, including children. It also conducts analyses of public policies aimed at improving the living standards of persons under the age of 18 and makes proposals to redress existing shortfalls in the fulfilment of children’s and adolescents’ rights.

Education is the main mechanism for achieving progress in multiple dimensions of social inclusion: greater equality of opportunity, skills for future social mobility, the formation of an active citizenry respectful of rights, familiarity with various cultural codes and access to the labour market with greater options.
In recent years, ECLAC has focused on analysing the role of education in social inclusion, by monitoring gaps, progress and challenges, and looking in particular at levels of schooling (primary and secondary).

The Social Development Division’s work on food and nutrition security is underpinned, first, by the principles set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, which enshrines food as a fundamental right and calls upon States to ensure food and nutrition security and, second, by the need to address major inequalities in access to food despite its availability in the region, which severely curtail fulfilment of the right to food and prejudice the nutritional status of the population.

Social protection encompasses policies that are geared towards the exercise of economic, social and cultural rights and towards protecting against uncertainty and risk, on the basis that people’s present and future well-being are affected by, among other factors, illness, difficulties in meeting the care needs of children, persons with disabilities or some sort of fragility, episodes of unemployment or underemployment, and the loss or substantial reduction of income in old age. Without adequate policies, socioeconomic conditions can worsen inequalities, vulnerability and poverty.
