The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) downwardly revised its projections for growth in the region’s economic activity in 2019, forecasting an average expansion of 0.1% in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Commission indicated today in a press release. A multidimensional approach to the well-being of the population of the states of Mexico

This article adapts a multidimensional index of the well-being of the population in the Mexican States, based on the recommendations of the Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (CMEPSP). This study’s contributions can be summarized in three key points: (i) factor analysis of principal components is used, to allow for different weights of dimensions; (ii) consideration is given to inequality of material well-being within the population of each state, and; (iii) representative state data are considered for all dimensions. Highlights: • In the first quarter of 2019, the U.S. economy grew at an above-trend annualized rate of 3.1%, despite the government shutdown and concerns about residual seasonality. Growth was driven by exports and a buildup in inventories. • In May, U.S. employers added just 75,000 jobs, one of the smaller gains since the recession ended in mid-2009. • U.S. consumer price inflation moderated in May, suggesting inflationary pressures remain muted.
