Foreign Direct Investment

In 2016, global FDI flows amounted to US$ 1.7 trillion, higher than any of the annual figures between 2008 and 2014. Nonetheless, this figure reflects a 2% drop compared with 2015. Developed economies regained the lead, receiving 59% of FDI flows, with their inflows climbing by 5%. Developing economies received 37% of the total and their FDI inflows fell by 14%. All the developing subregions received less investment, with Asia seeing decreases of 15% and Africa, 3%.…

En 2016, los flujos mundiales de IED fueron de 1,7 billones de dólares, un valor mayor que el que se llegara a alcanzar en cualquier año del período comprendido entre 2008 y 2014. Sin embargo, esa cifra implica una disminución del 2% con respecto a 2015. Las economías desarrolladas retomaron el protagonismo y recibieron el 59% de los flujos de IED (que aumentaron un 5%), mientras que las economías en desarrollo recibieron el 37% del total de la IED (que disminuyó un 14%). Employment Situation in Latin America and the Caribbean: The transition of young people from school to the labour market

In the first half of 2017 Latin American and Caribbean labour markets followed two main trends. On the one hand, as described in the first part of this report, the main indicators continued to deteriorate as a result of slack economic growth, as has been the case for several years. The empoyment rate continued to decrease, while the unemployment rate continued to rise. On the other hand, the pace of this deterioration has continued to slow, which could signal “light at the end of the tunnel”.
