The sixth meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC was held in Bávaro, Dominican Republic, from November 16 to 18, 2011.
The meeting emphasized that having reliable and timely official statistics is essential for designing and evaluating effective public policies. The countries agreed to strengthen data governance, modernize statistical systems and deepen regional cooperation, in order to improve the quality, comparability and use of information in decision-making for sustainable development.
During the Conference’s closing session, Paraguay took over as Chair of the Statistical Conference of the Americas for the 2012-2013 period. The new Executive Committee is also made up of Belize, Canada, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain and the Dominican Republic.
