The Caribbean region is prone to disasters due to its geographic location. The exposures and resulting impacts of these disasters are aggravated by persistent social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities. This study investigates the role that information and communication technologies (ICT) and knowledge management (KM) are playing in supporting sustainable development across islands in these countries. Focusing on the areas of health, education and governance, the study uses the multi-island countries of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos Islands as case studies to explore inter-island differences in ICT and KM capacity and the scope for strengthening this capacity. Las causas externas de muerte y su efecto sobre la esperanza de vida en las ciudades latinoamericanas: el ejemplo de Chile y el Ecuador, 2000-2010

Se analiza la carga antagónica en la ciudad latinoamericana entre su condición claramente aventajada en términos de desarrollo nacional y su alta concentración de mortalidad por causas externas. Chile y el Ecuador son ejemplos para identificar y dar seguimiento a los patrones de causas de muerte externas en sus ciudades en 2000-2010 con datos del sistema de registros vitales de ambos países. Las unidades administrativas menores de cada país son agrupadas en tres conglomerados geográficos según su tamaño poblacional.
