O Emissions Gap Report 2022 do Programa das Nações Unidas para o Meio Ambiente traz o resultado alarmante de que para manter o aquecimento global em até 1,5ºC no século XXI, as emissões de gases do efeito estufa (GEE) precisam ser reduzidas em 45% em um prazo de oito anos, até 2030 e, posteriormente, devem continuar caindo até alcançar a neutralidade de carbono ou net zero (PNUMA, 2022).
