Inequalities and participation in the digital society: online experiences among children and adolescents in Brazil and Chile

This paper presents a comparative analysis of the Global Kids Online research network data from Brazil and Chile in 2016 relating to children’s digital access, uses and skills. Results show that high-frequency users tend to be from higher socioeconomic groups. Girls and higher-income children perceive higher levels of risk on the Internet. The most common areas of use are related to learning and social life. Se presenta un análisis comparativo de datos de la red de investigaciones Global Kids Online (2016) sobre el acceso, los usos y las habilidades digitales de los niños en el Brasil y en Chile. Los resultados muestran que los usuarios de alta frecuencia tienden a pertenecer a los grupos socioeconómicos más altos. Las niñas en general, y los niños y las niñas de ingresos más altos, perciben más riesgos en Internet. Por otra parte, los ámbitos de uso más común se vinculan con el aprendizaje y la vida social.
