Twenty Government officials from Belize benefited from a one week workshop to build capacity in Conducting Public Expenditure Reviews (PERs), focusing on Applications for Education, Health, Agriculture and Social Protection. PERs are intended to align expenditures with government’s priorities. They are also intended to provide savings, either from expenditure reallocation or by reducing unproductive expenditures. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will present next Tuesday, July 26, its Economic Survey of Latin American and Caribbean 2016, a publication updating growth estimates for the region’s countries in the current year. ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, will present the report during a press conference that will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the organization’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile, and will be broadcast live via Internet at the institution’s Web site. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has revised downward its growth projections for the region’s economic activity, forecasting an average contraction of -0.6% in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2016, the United Nations organization said today in a press release.
