Remaking Trade For a Sustainable Future
Andres spoke on behalf of ECLAC at the Panel on "Trade and Inclusion: Leveraging Trade as Tool for Social Development" alongside Gregory Shaffer and Nita Rudra from Georgetown University, and Paula Tavares from the The World Bank. The panel discussed how the multilateral trade system can and should incorporate the social dimensions (labor, gender, indigenous rights, etc) as a core objective in order to support countries achieve the SDGs.
The event featured representatives from IDB, WB, ODI, USAID, Walmart, Silverado Policy Accelerator, etc. and also included presentations by USTR Ambassador Katherine Tai and US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and US Senator Chris Coons.
The Remaking Trade for a Sustainable Future is a project co-led by Dan Esty (Yale University), Joel Trachtman (The Fletcher School at Tufts University), and Jan Yves Remy (The University of the West Indies) and Andres Valenciano is part of it's steering committee.
