Energy Big Push: accelerating clean energy innovation in Brazil
The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC/CEPAL), the Brazilian Center for Strategic Studies and Management (CGEE), the Brazilian Energy Research Office (EPE) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) will host the webinar “Energy Big Push: accelerating clean energy innovation in Brazil” on 23 October 2020, from 10am to 12pm in Brasilia (GMT-3).
Since early-2019, the Energy Big Push (EBP) Brazil has been a collaborative project aiming to support investments in innovation for a sustainable energy transition in the country. Led by CGEE, EPE, ECLAC/CEPAL and IEA, it involves the participation of leading institutions and experts in energy and innovation in Brazil. The objective of this webinar is to launch the final reports of EBP Brazil resulting from this multi-institutional effort and discuss the nature and implications of its key findings for the future of clean energy innovation in the country.
The webinar will kick off with a high-level opening session, with remarks by (to be confirmed) Dave Turk (Acting Deputy Executive Director, and Head of the Clean Energy Transitions Programme at the IEA), Thiago Barral (President of EPE), Marcio Miranda (President of CGEE), Mario Cimoli (Deputy Executive Secretary of ECLAC). Following these introductory remarks, EBP Brazil co-leads will present the key findings of the reports, all of which are available in English and Portuguese. These findings are summarised and integrated in the EBP synthesis report: “A Big Push for Sustainability in Brazil’s energy sector: Input and evidence for policy coordination”. These presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. Closing remarks focusing on next steps will feature (to be confirmed) Eduardo Soriano (Director of Structuring Technologies Department, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations – MCTI) and Agnes da Costa (Head of the Regulatory Advisory Office, Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy – MME).
The event will take place online with live interpretation in English and Portuguese
