Natural resources
The primary mission of ECLAC in the area of natural resources and infrastructure is to foster competitiveness and greater productivity for economic and social development through the sustainable management of natural resources and the provision of infrastructure services in the countries of the region. To this end, ECLAC works to build countries’ institutional capacities to devise and implement public policies and regulatory frameworks with a view to increasing efficiency in the sustainable management of natural resources and in the provision of public utilities and infrastructure services. It also strives to achieve greater policy harmonization and coordination, to promote exchanges of best practices at the subregional and regional levels in these areas and to make best use of experiences at the global level.

La Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL), en conjunto con el Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía (MINAE) de Costa Rica y la Secretaria Nacional de Energía (SNE) de Panamá organizan este Taller para el fortalecimiento de capacidades institucionales mediante un diálogo técnico y político para habilitar una mayor capacidad de intercambios energéticos entre Panamá y Costa Rica
Regional Water Week for Latin America and the Caribbean – Santiago, Chile 2025
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), together with the Conference of Ibero-American Water Directors and Authorities (CODIA) and the Government of Chile, through the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Borders and Boundaries Directorate (DIFROL), are convening the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Water Week – Santiago, Chile 2025, which will take place from October 6 to 10, 2025, at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile, in a hybrid format (both in-person and virtual). This edition is being promoted by the General Directorate of Water (DGA) in its role as interim president of CODIA, with the support of the Secretariat of the Water Convention (UNECE-UN).

Expertos gubernamentales reiteran importancia de la agregación de valor, la economía circular y la inclusión de género para avanzar hacia una minería más productiva, inclusiva y sostenible en la región
La CEPAL ha producido una serie de videos testimoniales que visibilizan los avances y logros alcanzados por gobiernos y actores clave de la región, gracias a la asistencia técnica proporcionada por la institución en el marco del Programa “Cooperación Regional para la Gestión Sustentable de los Recursos Mineros en los Países Andinos” (MinSus). Estos testimonios destacan la colaboración interinstitucional, las buenas prácticas adoptadas, los desafíos superados y el impacto positivo en la promoción de una minería responsable y sostenible en la región. Asimismo, recogen las necesidades actuales y las oportunidades futuras de cooperación en el contexto del nuevo Programa “Materias Primas para una Transición Justa en América Latina” (MinJust), orientado a fortalecer la gestión minera con un enfoque inclusivo y sostenible.
Está disponible el Panorama del océano, los mares y los recursos marinos y su contribución al desarrollo sostenible de América Latina y el Caribe de la CEPAL, revisado y actualizado
El nuevo Panorama regional del océano en el desarrollo trae consigo un anexo estadístico sobre el comercio internacional de los principales bienes y servicios por país e información adicional sobre ecosistemas, áreas protegidas y gobernanza internacional regional.
Latin America and the Caribbean meet at ECLAC to strengthen regional water governance
From October 6 to 10, 2025, ECLAC's headquarters in Santiago, Chile, will host Regional Water Week, a new high-level meeting that will bring together authorities, experts, and strategic partners to advance with the region's countries toward a common agenda for water security and the human rights to water and sanitation.

With the participation of specialists from various countries of the region and from the international community, the Expert Workshop “Reflections on the Role of Low-Emission Hydrogen in the Energy Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean” concluded at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile. The event was organized by ECLAC’s Natural Resources Division in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Korea.
