Briefing note
Within the framework of the Fifty-fourth session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, on February 27, 2023, a side-event on Technological Tools for the Dissemination of Disaggregated Statistics in the Territory was held.
The objective of this meeting was to open a space for discussion and exchange to analyze the main achievements, challenges and next steps of the project led by ECLAC Statistics Division, which seeks to implement a geoportal in the national statistical offices in 8 countries of the region. The project is financed by the European Union and has the valuable technical support of EUROSTAT based on its experience in this area.
The objective of this project is to provide a technological tool for disseminating statistical data disaggregated by territory, support the internal management of statistical and geospatial data in national statistical offices, and interoperate with other sectoral geospatial platforms at the national level, providing inputs for territorial analysis exercises that support decision making and public policies in different areas of government.
The meeting was attended by authorities from the national statistics offices of Argentina, Costa Rica, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and representatives of CARICOM, Eurostat, IDB, UN-GGIM and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), who were able to reflect together on the results of the project, seeking to maximize the benefits of the work carried out and plan future activities to ensure its sustainability.
