Seminar on the Global Statistical and Geospatial Framework - Principle 5
Work area(s)
Topic(s)
The Global Statistical Geospatial Framework (GSGF) enables a range of data to be integrated from both statistical and geospatial communities and, through the application of its five Principles and supporting key elements, permits the production of harmonized and standardized geospatially enabled statistical data. The resulting data can then be integrated with statistical, geospatial, and other information to inform and facilitate data-driven and evidence-based decision making to support local, sub-national, national, regional, and global development priorities and agendas.
Principle 5 promotes that statistics with a geospatial component be accessible, usable, and aligned with standards and good practices, to facilitate their discovery, integration, analysis, and visualization by users. It underscores the importance of national statistical offices and geospatial agencies ensuring secure access to data, protecting privacy and confidentiality, while enabling their use for evidence-based decision-making. It also emphasizes the need to ensure data quality, facilitate access to analysis and visualization tools, and publish information through web services and linked data methods that enable dynamic and automated access.
Implementation of Principle 5 achieves the following objectives:
