Fifteenth meeting of the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC
Work area(s)
The fifteenth meeting of the Executive Committee of SCA solidified its position as the strategic forum for aligning regional statistical production with the 2030 Agenda. The meeting was notable for the creation of the Statistical Coordination Group for the SDGs, designed to standardize the measurement of social and economic progress in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to approving the technical cooperation plan for the biennium, regional leaders promoted the adoption of technological innovations such as Big Data and reinforced the need for autonomous and transparent national institutes to ensure that public policies are based on reliable evidence.
This meeting laid the foundation for a modern and reliable data infrastructure, reaffirming that high-quality statistics are the first step toward transforming social reality through evidence-based public decisions and ensuring that no one is left behind on the path to sustainable development.
