Un centenar de jóvenes caribeños debatirán cómo lograr el desarrollo sostenible y el futuro de la región, en los Diálogos de la Juventud del Caribe que se realizarán en abril
Alrededor de 100 jóvenes del Caribe se reunirán y debatirán el 3 y 4 de abril en los Diálogos de la Juventud del Caribe 2024 sobre asuntos que afectan al desarrollo sostenible y a su futura existencia como pueblos insulares en peligro. Los jóvenes del Caribe se reunirán para intercambiar ideas sobre cómo encaminar a los pequeños Estados insulares en desarrollo del Caribe por la senda del desarrollo sostenible, al tiempo que se enfrentan a un desarrollo lento, a las repercusiones de la pandemia del COVID y a otros retos sociales y económicos.

Where are we now: Science, Technology, Innovation and the Caribbean

The current driver of change in the region is renewable energy, influenced by factors such as reliance on expensive imported fossil fuels, falling costs of renewable energy technologies, and international commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To foster STI advancement, the study recommends promoting an STI culture, enhancing institutional support, increasing funding, integrating STI into education, and encouraging collaboration between governments, private sectors, and research institutions.

ECLAC CARIBBEAN DIRECTOR: International Community Must Lend a Hand to Small Island States

Director of ECLAC Caribbean Diane Quarless says that the international community will need to contribute more to support the development of Small Island Developing States; indeed, if the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are not achieved across all countries, then it is the entire global community that assumes responsibility, since the commitment to implement Agenda 2030 was made collectively by all states. Director Quarless was speaking at a media breakfast in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, organized by the United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean on Thursday (28 Sep).

ECLAC CARIBBEAN DIRECTOR: Caribbean Must Tackle Development Challenges Together & Capitalize on Resources 

Sub-Regional Director for the Caribbean of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Diane Quarless says Caribbean SIDS (Small Island Developing States) must stop working in silos to tackle development challenges and unlock the full potential of the region.   Director Quarless was speaking in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at a meeting of Caribbean SIDS, where representatives from 16 countries are assessing progress on sustainable development and planning for the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States in 2024.
