The development of global value chains and global production chains has been one of the major transformations of the world economy in recent decades, providing benefits through reduced international transport costs, advances in information and communications technologies (ICTs) and trade liberalization. Currently, a large part of global production and trade takes places within these chains, which has resulted in intermediate goods gaining importance in trade relations between countries.
