The United Nations Economic and Social Council, through its resolution 2010/14, has called upon governments and regional commissions that during 2012 they undertake celebratory actions of the ten years since the adoption of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. Meanwhile in Latin America and the Caribbean, through the agreements adopted through the ECLAC Special Committee on Population and Development in 2010, the Member States conducted a regional meeting of commemoration.
