Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the subsidiary bodies of ECLAC that has ultimate responsibility for the follow-up and review of issues relating to population and development.
The Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development was the outcome of the first session of the Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Montevideo from 12 to 15 August 2013. It represents the most significant intergovernmental agreement signed in the region in the area of population and development, and has become a key piece of the process of reviewing the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and its follow-up beyond 2014.
The implementation and follow-up of the Montevideo Consensus should be complemented by the mechanisms provided by other international instruments or bodies, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Regional Conferences on Women and Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
