Description

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean in collaboration with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Caribbean Office is reviewing gender issues in Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) programmes and projects being developed or implemented in the Caribbean subregion. The main objective of this review, of which this report is one component, is to assist in developing a programme for combating HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean within the context of their mandate to provide technical assistance to governments, engage in advocacy, capacity building and demonstration and dissemination of good practices and techniques and tools that can be used in the development process. This report is specifically intended to provide feedback that will assist in the preparation and implementation of HIV/AIDS programming in the Caribbean and will point to the gender issues that need to be addressed and integrated into proposed activities and strategic approaches developed and/or supported by ECLAC, UNIFEM and other agencies within the United Nations system. This will be done by focusing on three countries in the Caribbean, namely the Bahamas, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago.
