Briefing note
Statistical representatives of the United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programs that make up the Statistics and Data Group of the Regional Collaboration Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (RCP-LAC) of the United Nations met at the Plaza Mayor Convention Center on the V United Nations World Data Forum, held in Medellin, Colombia, from November 12 to 15, 2024.
The World Data Forum seeks to strengthen National Statistical Systems and improve understanding of extended data ecosystems by bringing together experts, policy makers, data professionals and other key stakeholders to discuss the role of data in global development.
These global and regional spaces make it possible for UN experts on statistical issues to meet, consolidating joint work and communication among group members, and facilitating the convergence of related tasks among agencies in strengthening the statistical capacities of member states to produce SDG indicators.
The specialists reinforced their commitment to the regional work plan, the need for shared planning of technical cooperation activities, and the use of international and regional meetings in this area to promote recurring meetings among its members.
The organizations present on this occasion were: the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
