On May 18 of this year, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of Argentina (INDEC) launched its statistical geoportal, a web platform that allows the dissemination of statistical data in a disaggregated manner throughout the territory. In this initial stage, the INDEC geoportal offers users provisional data from the 2022 National Census referring to population and dwellings by jurisdiction and department, district or commune, which can be displayed on maps and tables, and downloaded in various open data file formats.
This tool was designed and developed by the Statistics Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) within the framework of the "Strengthening Geospatial Capabilities of the National Statistical Offices to follow-up 2030 Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean" project, financed by the European Union and with the technical support of EUROSTAT. The implementation of the applications that give life to the geoportal was carried out in close collaboration with the INDEC technical teams.
The INDEC statistical geoportal (available only in Spanish) is based entirely on open-source technologies and is interoperable with other tools that publish georeferenced data in ministries, provinces and municipalities in Argentina. In this way, through this platform, the available statistical data can be visually integrated with other layers of thematic and complementary information, providing relevant inputs for territorial analysis exercises that support decision-making and public policies.
