On December 6, 2023, the National Institute of Statistics of Paraguay launched its Geostatistical Portal, a web platform that allows the dissemination of statistical data in a disaggregated manner throughout the territory. In this initial stage, the Geostatistical Portal offers users provisional data from the 2022 National Census regarding population and housing; active companies according to economic sector; absolute and relative incidence of poverty; and the national geostatistical framework. Additionally, there are layers of geospatial information on infrastructure, social facilities, and natural resources. All these topics can be displayed on maps and tables and downloaded in various open data formats.
This tool was designed and built by the Statistics Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) within the framework of the project “Strengthening the Geospatial Capacities of the National Statistics Offices for the monitoring of the 2030 Agenda in America Latin America and the Caribbean”, financed by the European Union and with the technical support of EUROSTAT. By the way, the implementation of the applications that give life to the Geostatistical Portal was carried out in close collaboration with the INE technical teams.
The Geostatistical Portal of Paraguay is based entirely on open-source technologies and is interoperable with other tools that publish georeferenced data in ministries, departments, and districts of the country. In this way, through this platform the available statistical data can be visually integrated with other layers of thematic and complementary information, providing relevant inputs for territorial analysis exercises that support decision-making and public policies.
