Ministers, deputy ministers and other senior authorities linked to planning for development and public administration from Latin America and the Caribbean will gather at the twenty-seventh meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Council for Planning, which will be held on August 30 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The meeting will be preceded by a high-level international seminar on “Territorialization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: Policy Challenges,” which will take place on August 29 and 30 in the Dominican capital.

Both meetings are being organized by the government of the Dominican Republic and by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), through its Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES).

At both gatherings, participants will analyze challenges, experiences and perspectives related to planning for development in the region, along with its role in the implementation and fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The activities will begin on Wednesday, August 29, with the international seminar “Territorialization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: Policy Challenges,” which aims to analyze the state of territorial inequality in the region and pending issues in this area.

The seminar will be inaugurated by Isidoro Santana, Minister of Economic Affairs, Planning and Development of the Dominican Republic; Raúl García-Buchaca, ECLAC’s Deputy Executive Secretary for Management and Program Analysis; and Javier Abugattás, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Center for Strategic Planning (CEPLAN) of Peru.

At this event, authorities from the region will present their experiences regarding territorial inequalities, national plans, strategies and policies for territorial development, and instruments, financing and budgets for their implementation.

The seminar, which will conclude at midday on Thursday, August 30, will include a special panel addressing the territorial aspect of development in the Caribbean.

On Thursday, August 30, meanwhile, the inauguration will take place of the twenty-seventh meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Council for Planning, an intergovernmental gathering at which ministers, deputy ministers and planning directors will review progress on work and compliance with the agreements approved by the Regional Council for Planning, the main governmental forum that orients the activities of ECLAC’s ILPES.
