The adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015 brought with it a commitment from countries and the international community to systematically monitor and review its implementation. To this end, a framework of indicators was developed to enable the global monitoring of the 169 targets of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at guiding actions toward achieving the targets by 2030. 

Since its formulation, the international statistical community has been working on defining and improving the global indicator framework and strengthening national statistical capacities for its monitoring.n el fortalecimiento de las capacidades estadísticas nacionales para su seguimiento.

Main lines of work of the Statistics Division:

• Compilation and dissemination of SDG indicators for Latin American and Caribbean countries.
• Analysis of the availability of comparable data for the indicators used to monitor the 2030 Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean.
• Definition and generation of a prioritized set of indicators to monitor the 2030 Agenda in the region.
• Technical Secretariat of the working groups of the Statistical Coordination Group for the 2030 Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean of the  Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC (SCA-ECLAC)
• Analysis of national statistical capacities for the production of SDG indicators.
• Analysis of regional progress toward the 2030 Agenda goals through the simulation of scenarios and regional trend projections to 2030 on a selected set of SDG indicators.
