La migración puede definirse de diferentes formas. La definición más aceptada en la actualidad indica que la migración es el cambio de residencia que implica el traspaso de algún límite geográfico u administrativo debidamente definido”. Si el límite que se cruza es de carácter internacional (frontera entre países), la migración pasa a denominarse “migración internacional”. Si el límite que se atraviesa corresponde a algún tipo de demarcación debidamente reconocida dentro de un país (entre divisiones administrativas, entre área urbana y rural, etc.), la migración pasa denominarse “migración interna”.

La reunión de la revisión regional se llevará a cabo del 18 al 20 de marzo de 2025 en la sede de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) de las Naciones Unidas en Santiago, Chile. Esta se iniciará con una Consulta de partes interesadas el 18 de marzo, seguida de una Conferencia Intergubernamental durante los días 19 y 20 de marzo.

ECLAC and ParlAmericas launch joint report on inclusive migration governance

The report was presented at the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica by Simone Cecchini, Director of CELADE - Population Division of ECLAC, at the Hemispheric Interparliamentary Meeting "Migration in the Context of Socio-Environmental Challenges", held in San José, Costa Rica from October 23 to 25, 2024. The joint work, prepared within the framework of the memorandum of understanding between ECLAC and ParlAmericas, constitutes a brief guide for parliamentarians on international migration in Latin America and the Caribbean, from the perspective of inclusive migration governance.
