Despite rapid and well‑targeted policy action to respond to the crisis, the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region has been the global epicentre of the COVID -19 pandemic with the greatest socio-economic impacts. Although positive growth is foreseen for 2021, gross domestic product per capita is not expected to return to pre‑crisis levels before 2023‑24. The impact of the crisis has been asymmetric, particularly affecting the most vulnerable groups.
