Successful Completion of the Virtual Training Workshop on Energy Planning and SDG 7 Roadmaps in Latin America and the Caribbean
Work area(s)
With great success and broad participation, the "Virtual Workshop on Energy Planning and SDG 7 Roadmap Development" concluded on May 14, 2025. The event was organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), with the support of the European Union’s GET.Transform program.

The workshop was held in four virtual sessions, conducted between April 23 and 30, and on May 7 and 14. It brought together a total of 59 participants from energy authorities, technical experts, and government representatives from 16 countries in the region. The aim of the activity was to strengthen technical capacities for developing robust energy plans using the NEXTSTEP methodological framework and the LEAP energy modeling platform.
Throughout the sessions, participants delved into key concepts such as integrated energy systems planning, economic and multi-criteria analysis, and long-term scenario building. They also had the opportunity to carry out practical exercises using LEAP, creating specific energy models, analyzing emissions and associated costs, and evaluating future scenarios.
The training also stood out for the active engagement of participants, who shared national experiences and discussed challenges and opportunities for achieving the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (affordable and clean energy).
This initiative, conducted within the framework of the Regional Forum of Energy Planners (FOREPLEN) supported by GET.Transform, is part of ECLAC and its regional partners' ongoing efforts to foster a continuous technical dialogue on sustainable and inclusive energy planning in Latin America and the Caribbean.
