Regional expert meeting on emerging human rights and planetary human responsibilities highlights the Escazú Agreement

In its capacity as technical secretariat of the Escazú Agreement, ECLAC participated in the "Regional expert meeting on emerging human rights and planetary human responsibilities" and the "Regional symposium on planetary human responsibilities in the context of the climate crisis: contributions for the global debate on the rights of future generations in the international system", that took place in Cusco (Peru) between 27 and 28 March 2019.

In its capacity as technical secretariat of the Escazú Agreement, ECLAC participated in the "Regional expert meeting on emerging human rights and planetary human responsibilities" and the "Regional symposium on planetary human responsibilities in the context of the climate crisis: contributions for the global debate on the rights of future generations in the international system", that took place in Cusco (Peru) between 27 and 28 March 2019.

During the event, ECLAC delivered a presentation on participation, inclusion and transparency in the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, with a view to leaving no one behind. It also underscored the importance of the Escazú Agreement as a driver of climate action and sustainable development. Furthermore, ECLAC focused on the developments in environmental law and environmental defenders Latin America in the framework of the Escazú Agreement.

The events were organized by Biosfera, the Provincial Municipality of Cusco, Terre des hommes, Sami, Desco, the Pontifical Javeriana University, Antonio Nariño University, Externado de Colombia University and JVR. Representatives of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Andean Parliament, public officials, academia, lawyers, jurists, civil society, youth and indigenous peoples were in attendance.
