At the special meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Population and Development (Santiago, November 2017), the countries requested the secretariat, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), to prepare the draft first regional report on the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development for consideration by the countries at the third session of the Regional Conference on Population and Development.
At the third session of the Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (Lima, August 2018), the countries of the region considered and welcomed the Draft first regional report on the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development. They also requested the secretariat to take into account the observations and suggestions conveyed by countries, as well as national reports received that could not be considered in the preparation of the draft first regional report, in order to review and update it with a view to its adoption as the first regional report on the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development.
This document, which complies with the previously mentioned request of the countries of the region, was prepared by the Latin American and Caribbean Demographic Centre (CELADE)-Population Division of ECLAC, in its capacity as technical secretariat of the Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, for the third session of the Conference, held in Lima from 7 to 9 August 2018. The technical secretariat was assisted by the Division for Gender Affairs of ECLAC and received support and assistance from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the preparation of the document.
