Topic(s)
ECLAC held a workshop at Ecuador's National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) to strengthen its statistical geoportal by diagnosing its technological infrastructure; reviewing geospatial and statistical data assets; providing training in the use and configuration of system components; and beginning the migration process for data currently hosted on ECLAC's infrastructure.

As part of its technical assistance program, ECLAC held a workshop at the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) of Ecuador from May 6 to 8, 2025, with the aim of strengthening the institution's statistical geoportal. The initiative is part of a regional effort to promote the dissemination of statistical data disaggregated by subnational territorial units through the integration of statistical and geospatial information and the use of open source technologies.
The workshop opened with a joint presentation by the ECLAC delegation and the INEC technical team, which presented the current status of the geoportal's implementation to institutional authorities, including Deputy Director Marianita Granda and representatives from the Technology, Statistical Cartography, and Field Operations Directorates.
During the three days of work, key activities were developed, such as the assessment of the technological infrastructure available for the local implementation of the geoportal; the review of geospatial and statistical data assets to be incorporated; technical training in the use and configuration of system components; and the initiation of the migration process for data currently hosted in ECLAC's infrastructure.
In parallel, part of the ECLAC delegation held meetings with the Military Geographic Institute (IGM) and the Secretariat of Planning and Development (SENPLADES) to coordinate the update of the Supreme Decree that regulates the operation of the National Geoinformatics Council (CONAGE), the agency responsible for leading the development of the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure (INDG) in Ecuador.
At the close of the workshop, a working session was held to define the next steps aimed at strengthening the statistical geoportal, thus concluding the technical visit.
