The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will present next Thursday, November 24, 2022 its flagship annual report Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean 2022, which includes new data on inequality and poverty in the region and on the silent crisis in education in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The document will be unveiled by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, at a hybrid press conference (in-person and virtual) held from Santiago, Chile at 11 a.m. local time (UTC/GMT-3).
This edition of the Social Panorama analyzes the silent crisis in education and the need to make progress on transforming education as the basis for sustainable development. It includes a chapter on gender inequalities in educational and labor trajectories in the region.
The document also examines the institutional framework and social spending in Latin American and Caribbean countries, among other issues.
Members of the media are invited to participate in the press conference, which will take place at ECLAC’s building (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago, Chile, Celso Furtado hall). Journalists must have their media credentials or IDs with them to gain access to the building and must get accredited in advance by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The press conference will also be transmitted live via Zoom (https://cepal-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Dw7e-fYaR4G42WDZplpYzQ) and via the institution’s website and its social media accounts on Twitter (https://twitter.com/cepal_onu) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/cepal.onu).
Journalists will be able to submit their questions ahead of time to the email address email@example.com, and ECLAC’s Executive Secretary will respond to them once he has finished presenting the document. Questions will only be taken until 11:30 a.m. local time.
The full electronic version of the report, along with a press release and the Executive Secretary’s presentation, will be available on ECLAC’s website on Thursday, November 24, as soon as the press conference has concluded.
