Representatives from the region’s signatory countries of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration—which promotes access to information, participation and justice in environmental matters—will meet November 4-6, 2014, at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.
At the gathering, participants will analyze the fulfillment of the Action Plan for 2014 and launch the negotiation phase for a regional agreement on rights of access in environmental matters, based on the content agreed in the most recent working group meetings held in Costa Rica last September.
The Fourth Meeting on the Focal Points Appointed by the Governments of the Signatory Countries of the Declaration on the Application of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean will be inaugurated on Tuesday, November 4, at 9 a.m., by ECLAC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Antonio Prado, and Chilean Environment Minister, Pablo Badenier.
Later, at 12:30 p.m., ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, will address the audience.
The Declaration on the Application of Principle 10 has been signed by 19 countries in the region since 2012. In this process, ECLAC holds the technical secretariat.
Media are invited to attend the inauguration and the event’s sessions.
The meeting will be broadcast live via Internet on ECLAC’s website.
