This intergovernmental gathering will bring together authorities from the region’s countries, representatives of regional and international organizations and members of civil society, on July 2-4 in Cartagena de Indias.
Senior representatives of governments, regional and international institutions, the private sector, academia and civil society will address the achievements of the Montevideo Consensus along with its implementation challenges 30 years after the adoption of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), during the Fifth session of the Regional Conference on Population and Development, which will take place on July 3-4 at the Convention Center in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
At this meeting, ECLAC will present a document entitled Population, Development and Rights in Latin America and the Caribbean, which constitutes the second regional report on the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus and analyzes progress on the implementation of the agreement’s priority measures, eleven years since its adoption.
The session will feature two thematic panels on which member countries and other stakeholders will share their experiences and the challenges to implementing the Montevideo Consensus, 30 years after the adoption of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). They will also analyze progress and challenges in relation to ensuring that persons with disabilities can fully exercise their rights, within the framework of the population and development agenda.
The Fifth session of the Regional Conference on Population and Development will be preceded on July 2 by side events and activities carried out by civil society.
The Conference is currently chaired by the Government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia and receives strategic support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The Montevideo Consensus
