In his first official activity at the global forum, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary participated in a side event organized by the Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition.

The Environment Committee of Brazil’s Federal Senate promoted a public presentation of more than 30 legislative proposals, drafted with ECLAC’s technical support, for driving the country’s development with economic, social and environmental sustainability.

"We urge our member countries to devote more resources to research, development and innovation, incentivize science and evidence-supported nature-based solutions and reward good agri-environmental practices,” ECLAC’s Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena said.

ECLAC and FAO, in collaboration with other United Nations entities present in Latin America and the Caribbean, organized a regional dialogue prior to the Food Systems Summit 2021.

This concept has received little public policy attention from countries in the region, despite the contribution it could make toward achieving the SDGs, according to a new study by ECLAC.
