XII Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean

The twelfth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Santo Domingo, from 15 to 17 October 2013, and was convened by the Executive Secretary of ECLAC in compliance with ECLAC resolution 667(XXXIV), to examine the progress made by the region and the challenges that remain for achieving gender equality, with an emphasis on women's autonomy in the digital economy and the information society.

The Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean is a subsidiary body of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) which is convened on a regular basis, at least every three years, to identify the situation of women’s autonomy and rights at the regional and subregional levels, present public policies recommendations for gender equality, undertake periodic assessments of the activities carried out in fulfilment of regional and international plans and agreements on the subject, and serve as a forum for debates on relevant issues.

ECLAC has been given the mandate to convene the member States to sessions of the Regional Conference. Generally, a member country of ECLAC offers to host the conference. On this occasion, the Republic of Domican Republic was host the meeting.

Provisional agenda:

1. Election of officers.

2. Adoption of the agenda.

3. Activities carried out by the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, the ECLAC secretariat and specialized agencies and other bodies of the United Nations System since the eleventh session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.

4. Presentation of the position paper: Women in the digital economy: breaking through the equality threshold.

5. Consideration and adoption of agreements by the Conference.

6. Other matters.
