The event aims to foster the exchange of experiences in mainstreaming a gender perspective in international development cooperation and foreign policy, highlighting the collective learning generated through South-South cooperation, triangular cooperation and the community of practice established under the CoPEF project. The event will bring together government representatives, representatives of international organizations and experts to discuss relevant tools, capacities and challenges, with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation and supporting the implementation of the Tlatelolco Commitment to advance towards substantive gender equality and the care society.

Gender equality is a strategic pillar of international development cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean. Within the framework of the Regional Gender Agenda and the Tlatelolco Commitment: A Decade of Action to Achieve Substantive Gender Equality and the Care Society, approved at the sixteenth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean (2025), ECLAC member States reaffirmed the importance of strengthening regional cooperation, multilateral action and gender mainstreaming in foreign policy and international cooperation in order to advance towards substantive gender equality and the care society.

In this context, the session will provide a space for the exchange of experiences, good practices and tools aimed at strengthening the incorporation of the gender perspective into the various modalities of international cooperation, including South-South and triangular cooperation. The lessons generated by the community of practice of the project Strengthening Feminist Foreign Policy and International Feminist Cooperation (CoPEF) will also be shared. This community of practice has promoted technical exchange, institutional capacity-building, and the development of tools to support decision-making.

During the event, the products developed by ECLAC under the CoPEF project will be presented: ‘Guidelines and action plan for mainstreaming the gender perspective in international development cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean’, ‘Tools for mainstreaming the gender perspective in international development cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean’ (available only in Spanish), and the self-paced course Mainstreaming the gender perspective in foreign policy through international development cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The session seeks to contribute to dialogue among ministries of foreign affairs, cooperation agencies, machineries for the advancement of women and other actors involved in international action, promoting knowledge exchange and regional coordination to strengthen the integration of the gender perspective into international development cooperation and advance the implementation of regional commitments on gender equality.
