The second meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC was held in Santiago, Chile, from June 18 to 20, 2003.
At this second meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas, the regional statistical work program for 2003-2005 was approved, and cooperation among countries was strengthened to improve the production and quality of official statistics. It also promoted methodological harmonization, the use of administrative records, and the development of social and economic statistics, consolidating the role of information in public policy.
During the Conference’s closing session, Chile took over as Chair of the Statistical Conference of the Americas for the 2003-2005 period. The new Executive Committee is also made up of Bolivia, Brazil, Spain, the United States of America, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago.
