The Joint meeting of the member countries of the Statistical Conference of the Americas (SCA) and members of the Regional Committee of United Nations on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Americas (UN-GGIM: Americas) was held in Santiago, Chile, on April 5, 2017, within the framework of the Sixteenth meeting of the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC.


This meeting marks the first global gathering to formally integrate the statistical and geospatial communities to work on a common agenda.

Among the results of this meeting, the role of ECLAC as a technical secretariat to facilitate dialogue between national statistical institutes and cartographic agencies was emphasized, and with regard to a joint action plan, the definition of a roadmap to implement the Global Statistical Geospatial Framework at the national level was agreed upon, overcoming institutional and technical barriers.
