The fifth meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC was held in Bogotá, Colombia, from August 10 to 13, 2009.
This fifth Statistical Conference of the Americas meeting allowed the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to agree on the creation of a Regional Code of Good Practices for the management of statistical information, aimed at strengthening the quality, transparency, and credibility of official statistics. Furthermore, progress was made on the commitment to adopt international standards, improve the production of indicators, and deepen regional cooperation, in order to have more reliable and timely information for the formulation and evaluation of public policies.
During the Conference’s closing session, the Dominican Republic took over as Chair of the Statistical Conference of the Americas for the 2009-2011period. The new Executive Committee is also made up of the Bahamas, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, France and Uruguay.
