Latin America and the Caribbean is renowned for its vast biocultural richness. Biodiversity and its ecosystem services support livelihoods of millions of people and economic and social development in many countries and territories.
However, in our region, the environmental pressure posed by the unsustainable use of natural resources has led to the reduction of productivity and numerous conflicts.
It is therefore crucial to improve our understanding of how biodiversity can contribute to structural change and development.
Our biocultural heritage has great potential to transform development patterns incorporating the principles of sustainability and equity, in synergy with the 2030 Agenda.
