The aims of the Social Development Division include assessment and analysis of the social situation of the population of Latin America and the Caribbean and examination of social policy management and impact.
In this connection, one of the Division’s current priorities is tracking and assessing social investment in the countries of the region, which involves collecting, disseminating and analysing statistics related to (public and private) social investment, which are published annually in the Social Panorama of Latin America, among other specialized documents. The Division maintains the relevant information in a regularly updated database, which includes new series from ECLAC member countries. Another of the Division’s tasks is developing new analytical methodologies and models to improve understanding of social policy in the region and enhance its effectiveness, efficiency and transparency.
