Estos encuentros comienzan en Europa el año 2011, y hasta la fecha se han realizado 9 Summits en Norte América, Asia-Pacífico y África. Esta será la primera vez que se realice una cumbre de estas características en América Latina y El Caribe, y será la número 12° a nivel mundial.
