Alberto Arenas
Alberto Arenas, an economist, has served as Chief of the Social Development Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) since 2021. He is a graduate of the University of Chile and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining the United Nations he was Minister of Finance of Chile, and led the 2014 tax reform while he held that position. As Director of the Budget in the Ministry of Finance of Chile, he also led the 2008 pension system reform and acted as Executive Secretary of the Committee of Ministers for Pension Reform that same year. He is the author of 4 books and more than 35 publications on fiscal policy, social protection and pension systems.
