Martín Abeles

Martín Abeles is Chief of the Natural Resources Division at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), where he has worked since 2009. From 2014 to 2024, he served as Chief of the ECLAC office in Argentina. He holds a degree in economics from the National University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and a PhD in economics from The New School university in New York. His expertise and publications focus on macroeconomics, development economics and natural resources. He has worked as a researcher in the Economics and Technology Area at the Argentine headquarters of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), served as Research Director at the Centre for Economics and Finance for Development in Argentina (CEFID-AR) and held various positions at the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Argentina, including Undersecretary of Economic Programming (2006–2008) and Secretary of Economic Policy (2008–2009). He is an associate editor of the Review of Keynesian Economics (ROKE) and a Professor of Development Economics at the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) in Argentina.
