ECLAC Will Launch Report on Foreign Direct Investment in the Region in 2010

The publication tackles the significant position of Latin America and the Caribbean as a recipient and source of FDI in 2010, China's penetration as an investor in the region and trends in the telecommunications and software industries.

(28 April 2011) Flows of foreign direct investment (FDI) to and from Latin America and the Caribbean displayed some historical trends in 2010, according to the annual report on the matter by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), due to be launched on Wednesday 4 May in Mexico City, Mexico.

The Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, and Mexican Minister of Finance and Pubic Credit, Ernesto Cordero, will present the main results of the 13th edition of the study at a press conference scheduled for 1.00 p.m. in the office of the ECLAC subregional headquarters in Mexico.

The report Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2010 describes FDI flows received by each of the region's countries in 2010, and provides projections for this year.

Other topics covered by this ECLAC publication are:

  • China's direct investment in the region.
  • The rise of transnational Latin American enterprises, known as Trans-Latins.
  • The main foreign investments and business strategies in regional telecommunications and software industries.
