(16 September 2011) Today, various agencies of the United Nations system headquartered in Santiago welcomed representatives of the National Coordinating Committee of Chilean Secondary School Students (CONES) for a dialogue.

The students, who were from different regions in the country, made thematic presentations and they shared their national demands with the international officials.

The young people were given advice on some international instruments and mandates which include matters relating to education, work, development and rights by representatives from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, hosted the meeting and highlighted the importance of these sessions for exchanging ideas and called for the students and representatives of the United Nations to continue the dialogue.
