The Secretariat of the Escazú Agreement mourns the death of Orlando Jorge Mera

The Secretariat of the Escazú Agreement condemns and mourns the death of Orlando Jorge Mera, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic and political focal point for the Escazú Agreement.

It also expresses its sincere condolences to his family and to the Government and people of the Dominican Republic.

The protection of human rights defenders in environmental matters as established in the Escazú Agreement continues to be an urgent need in Latin America and the Caribbean.
